Some facts
and figures: We traveled for 31 days and in this time managed to cover a distance of 9,185 miles, approx. 14,800 km. The longest distance we went at a time was the trip back from Seattle, WA to New York City, about 3,000 miles or 4,800 km. It took us 3.5 days (we stopped only for food, gas and to sleep) - 3 days at 14 hours each and another 4 hours on the fourth day. Each day we managed to cover about 900 miles (give and take a few) or 1,450 km. We traveled faster in the West where the speed limit was a roaring 70 or 75 mph (110 and 120 kmh respectively) as compared to the meager 65 or even 55 mph (105 and 90 kmh) in the East. There were fewer people on the roads in the West which made traveling faster and easier. Although, we have to admit, it's boring and monotonous beyond belief. Sometimes the landscape doesn't change for hours and your exitement for the hour is passing by a gas station or a McDonalds. Pack a good book - I took 6 and managed to read all but one. |
